It will be an honor and a privilege to represent the people of the Great State of Ohio, in Washington DC.

If elected, I will follow in the footsteps of 6 other African Americans who have enriched the history of the US Senate.

In 1870, Hiram Revels of Mississippi became the first African American senator. Five years later, Blanche K. Bruce of Mississippi took the oath of office, and became the first African American to preside over the Senate in 1879.

It would be nearly another century, until 1967, before Edward Brooke of Massachusetts followed in their historic footsteps. In 1993, Carol Moseley-Braun broke another barrier, becoming the first African American woman senator. In January of 2005, Barack Obama of Illinois brought the number to five. When Senator Obama resigned from office to become the 44th President of the United States in 2009, the Illinois governor appointed Roland Burris to fill the vacant seat.

These distinguished individuals have enriched the history of the United States Senate.

Health Care Reform is Great News!

Ohioians, we now have health care we can believe in. It is more affordable, health insurers are more accountable, and health coverage has been expanded to all Americans. Washington has laid the foundation and as your next United States Senator I will continue to improving affordability and Accountability, eliminate waste and abuse, and continue to improve healthcare for years to come.

My Mother, a former Teacher, raised 4 children by herself...

She dedicated 30 years of service to improving the Educational System. She instilled in me the importance of Education and the belief that every child deserves a quality education. I understand the important role education plays in our children’s futures and in our State’s economic development.

Our children deserve the very best and must be provided with tools to be innovative and competitive in order to secure their successful future. If we want our economy to remain the strongest in the world, we must set high standards for our schools while giving teacher’s incentives to teach and students the resources necessary to learn. My Mother believed this and devoted her life to Education and I will continue to fight for our children.

I understand how it feels to be laid off...

...living pay check to pay check, with gas and food prices through the roof, and the mortgage is due. I am committed to addressing the mortgage crisis, providing middle class tax breaks, building strong social and economic networks.

I will focus on workforce development programs in order to train our citizens to meet the job market’s ever-changing demands, and to ensure long-term economic strength. I will fight to keep spending down and promote fiscally responsible government. I will create comprehensive innovative solutions to undo the failed economic policies of the past, restoring a solid foundation for the future.
